Creating Cabaret Workshop - A free workshop!

October 10, 2022 at 7PM

About

A workshop for adults and teenagers. This workshop is free thanks to generous support from HEARTS Port Washington. Registration is limited to 15 attendees. Please click here or contact info@landmarkonmainstreet.org to secure your spot!

Join Bremner Duthie in this intensive workshop designed for adults with an interest in cabaret performance and musical theatre. Some previous vocal training and performing experience would be an asset but is not compulsory. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use the power of the Cabaret format to create your own musical show.  This show could be based on your own story, or a story from history, or a character that fascinates you. You’ll leave this three-hour workshop with the tools to begin creating your own Cabaret performance.

Cabaret is currently undergoing a renaissance, as new generations of performers rediscover this old style. Contemporary cabaret groups and performers are reinventing this form that combines songs and music, innovative staging and costumes, and social and political satire. In London, New York and LA successful, enduring, or innovative cabaret acts have been honored with their own awards.

For the last twenty years, I’ve been exploring stories through Cabaret.  I’ve toured around the world, from Moscow to Paris to the Edinburgh Festival and across North America.  I’ve taken stories, some of them from history, some of them imagined, some of them from my own life, and I’ve created musical shows that made people cry, made people laugh and made people think differently.

Cabaret is a unique place where you can bring music and stories and ideas to life. You can take old songs and reinterpret them, so people hear them anew. You can cross over the boundary of the fourth wall and literally put yourself in someone’s lap. You can perform Cabaret in every kind of venue, no matter how large or small. You can touch people deeply by connecting songs and stories, especially if those stories are ones you believe in, or ones you’ve lived.  And Cabaret is the most accessible musical theatre performing style around.  Because it’s all based on your creativity

Cabaret is a place that is open to all voices. Where all genders can find expression. The tradition of drag and camp and gender-bending goes back a century. Cabaret is a place where anyone  can find their voice and their story.

Enrollment is free! Please sign up on Eventbrite or contact info@landmarkonmainstreet.org to secure your spot.
