The
closing of Main Street School in 1985 signaled the start
of a remarkable effort to preserve and transform the property.
After a decade of hard work by individuals, businesses and
the government to restore this community treasure to its
original splendor, it was re-opened in 1995 as "Landmark
on Main Street."
The building's stature and historic significance were formally
recognized in 1983 when it won a place on the rolls of the
National Register of Historic Sites.
