Ban the Bag or Bag the Ban?
Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 7 pm

The New York State plastic bag ban begins on March 1, 2020.

What does this mean for you as a consumer and a business owner? Just how environmentally friendly is the NY State plastic bag ban?

The new law doesn't stop pollution if it just switches everyone to another throwaway bag. Did you know there will still be 23 billion single, disposable checkout bags used every year even with the plastic bag ban? Not only do paper bags require cutting down trees, they can cost 10x more than plastic, raising prices on EVERY item we buy.

Following a screening of the award-winning film Bag It, George Povall, Executive Director of All Our Energy invites you to join the Conversation about the new law, its impact and alternatives. All Our Energy is a 501c3 non-profit focused on environmental advocacy, education, and empowering people to support renewable energy development and to take action on environmental issues.

Founded in 2014, All Our Energy helped stop the Port Ambrose offshore LNG terminal, supports the coming offshore wind project off Long Island, spearheaded the successful "Bring Your Own Bag" campaigns in Long Beach and Sea Cliff that are creating a reusable and sustainable culture, and continues to inspire that change across Nassau County and New York State.

Film length 60 minutes.

Co-presented with All Our Energy.

No tickets or reservations required.

Free admission to all Conversations from Main Street programs is made possible by a grant from the Angela & Scott Jaggar Foundation
